Come celebrate the life and fast times of motorsports legend Mickey Thompson with the people who knew him best: his son, Danny Thompson; his first wife and Danny's mother, Judy Thompson Creach; fellow hot-rod hero Alex Xydias; drag racer Tom Jobe, and turbocharger mad scientist Gale Banks. The Goodwood Festival of Speed is a heart-stoppingly special event. I remember my first back in the late 1990s: marvelling at the splendour of Goodwood House; impressed that you could walk up so close to the cars and stars that enrich the atmosphere; and wondering just how Lord March had turned his back yard into one of the world’s premier motoring events. Make no mistake, the Festival of Speed is unlike any other I have ever attended.
Mazda Motor Corp. chairman Takashi Yamanouchi opened the company's new small-car assembly plant in Mexico today, calling it the company's "most important global strategic base."
The factory, which will produce up to 230,000 vehicles each year, is a cornerstone of the structural reform plan "upon which the very future of company hinges," Yamanouchi said in remarks prepared for the opening ceremony. "Mazda's Structural Reform Plan, upon which the very future of the company hinges, positions this plant as our most important global strategic base," Yamanouchi said of the factory, which is about three hours northwest of Mexico City in Guanajuato State.
